Use our gamified walking tour of the Castro to learn about queer Pioneers of Pot.

September is when San Francisco finally gets a bit of summer weather, and we can’t think of a more perfect way to enjoy it than a stroll through The Castro. This colorful neighborhood is steeped in both queer culture and cannabis history, since the two tend to intertwine.

Start your walk by joining our Pioneers of Pot Check-in Challenge, a gamified passport powered by Seeker Explore that will guide you through The Castro, with stories of queer pioneers along the way. The walk begins at a Cultural Landmark along the Trail, Flore dispensary, where on the side of the building you can see a Cannabis Trail Monument honoring compassion and the cannabis patients served here.

Looking at the mural on the side of the building of Flore from the street, with a sign in the front saying "First stop on The Cannabis Trail - Artist Dave Van Patten.

The Monument mural shows the connection between the Humboldt farmers and San Francisco patients in the cannabis community.

🌞 Shop Sungrown, Organic & Local in Mendocino

One of our favorite places to visit this time of year is the Mendocino Coast. If you’re looking for an idyllic escape, now is the perfect time. Hit up Orr Hot Springs on your way there for a soothing soak, stay at the MacCallum House nearby, and support local small farmers by stopping at Cultural Landmark and adorable weed shop Sol de Mendocino.

With an ocean view and the perfect location for a stopping in on a stroll through the charming coastal town, Sol de Mendocino boasts a selection of local products with a special focus on small farmers from the area, and a Landmark dedicated to the work of constitutional rights activist Pebbles Trippet. Learn about Pebbles in the lobby, pick up something tasty to puff on, and stroll down to the Headlands to enjoy a sunset. Ahhh… the perfect way to unwind.

👵 Her ‘Bust Heard Round the World’ Helped Legalize It

We recently celebrated Brownie Mary Day on August 25th, an day initiated by the City of San Francisco to honor medical marijuana matriarch Mary Jane Rathbun, better known as Brownie Mary.

Her tenacious compassion led her to deliver weed-laced brownies to dying AIDS patients in a San Francisco hospital, despite multiple arrests over the years. And her friendship with Dennis Peron, who used the press response from one of her busts to help usher in Proposition 215 in California, led to us being able to enjoy legal cannabis today. Learn more about Brownie Mary, Cannabis Trail Pioneer, in a recent Beard Bros Travel article.
